Apsrtc – Interesting Facts

APSRTC is also otherwise known as Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation which is under the providence of public sector Road Transport Corporation of Andhra Pradesh State. The history of APSRTC can be traced back in the year 1932, which was established as a unit of Nizam State Railways-Road Transport Division. Now, it is considered to be the largest bus transport system in the whole world.
Interesting facts about APSRTC.

Initially, this transport system was started with 27 buses and was constantly developing. According to a statistics taken on 30 January 2009, the total calculated buses were 20972.

About 14 million passengers travel by APSRTC on a daily basis. This equals the passenger number of Indian Railways.

This has been certified by the Guinness World Records on 31/10/1999 for holding the largest bus transportation system with 18, 397 buses.

The APSRTC received the ‘Road Safety award’ by ‘Chartered Institute of Transport’ based of United Kingdom.

The Government of India also honor the APSRTC, by presenting them ‘Productivity and Fuel Efficiency Award’ for many years, sometimes even consecutively.

Each and every buses owned by the APSRTC have its own exclusive registration numbers with the ‘z’ series. For instance, it has ‘AP 12 Z 2008’.

And every rented bus by APSRTC has regular registration numbers. For instance, ‘AP 11 X 2010’.

APSRTC is a pioneer in providing their bus services in the Southern parts of India. And it operates across states namely Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Orissa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, and Chhattisgarh.

Services offered to the people by the APSRTC are classified depending on the travel distance, destination, and also the luxury of coaches. City services have ordinary, metro deluxe (veera), metro express, seethala hamsa (A/C). Other long distance services include Garuda, Super Luxury, Meghdooth, and Sapthagiri.
